About
One person, a long track record, and no invented colleagues.
NpKs Digital is run by Puthirith Nuon — Thirith — from Phnom Penh, Cambodia. It is bootstrapped: no investors, no board, no growth targets set by someone who has never used the product.
That shapes the work. A studio funded by its own client engagements cannot afford to ship something that does not work, because there is no runway to absorb it. It also means we can say no to work we are not right for, and can tell a client the honest answer when the honest answer is that they need less than they asked for.
The products came first. Khmer Keyboard - NP shipped on the App Store in 2017 and is still maintained. Catpro followed in 2023. Building and running our own apps — through store review, through privacy declarations, through the unglamorous business of keeping something working for years — is where the client work comes from.
The specialism is Khmer. Khmer text is genuinely hard to handle correctly: grapheme clusters that span several codepoints, subscript consonants stacked below their base, a national encoding standard to comply with, and a character set that does not fit a phone keyboard without real design work. Most software treats it as an afterthought and ships bugs that are obvious to every Khmer reader. We start from the model instead of patching the symptoms.
We are not the biggest studio you could hire. For work that needs someone who has actually shipped and maintained apps in this market, and who will still be reachable a year later, that is usually the point.
